Ingredients
Scale
8 high-quality beef or mixed-meat hot dogs
8 fresh hot dog buns (brioche or classic)
1/2 cup yellow or Dijon mustard
1/2 cup tomato ketchup
1/2 cup sweet pickle relish
1 small white onion, finely diced
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup pickled jalapeños
1 cup warm chili (optional)
1 cup sauerkraut (drained)
2 medium tomatoes, diced
Mayonnaise and BBQ sauce for drizzling
Instructions
Start by prepping all your cold toppings. Dice the onions and tomatoes, shred the cheese, and place the condiments into small, easy-to-access bowls. If you are serving chili or sauerkraut, warm them up on the stovetop or in a microwave and keep them in insulated containers or slow cookers to stay warm.
Clean your grill grates and preheat the grill to medium-high heat (about 375°F to 400°F). Ensure the grates are lightly oiled to prevent the hot dogs from sticking.
Place the hot dogs on the grill grates. Cook them for about 5 to 7 minutes, turning them frequently with tongs. You are looking for a nice char on the outside and for the hot dogs to be heated through to the center.
During the last minute of grilling, open the hot dog buns and place them face-down on the grill. Toast them for 30 to 60 seconds until they are lightly golden and warm. Watch them closely as they can burn very quickly!
Transfer the hot dogs and toasted buns to a large platter. Arrange the bowls of toppings and condiments around the platter. Provide spoons for the toppings and napkins for the guests. Invite everyone to build their dream hot dog!
